Job Summary

We are currently seeking a GL Sr. Accountant to support our office located in Germantown, MD. The Senior Accountant is responsible for examining, analyzing, interpreting and maintaining accounting records for the purpose of giving advice and/or preparing statements.

Essential Responsibilities:

1.Provides financial support including forecasting, budgeting, and analyzing variations from budget.

2.Includes positions involved in devising or installing accounting systems and advising on cost-recording systems and/or financial and budgetary data.

3.Develops, directs, plans and evaluates accounting policies and procedures including cost accounting, general accounting, and accounts payable and receivable.

4.Manages the planning and direction of accounting activities, including the maintenance of the ledger accounts and financial statements.

5.Prepares, records, analyzes and reports accounting transactions, including coordination and administration of assignments.

6.Under limited supervision, performs accounting assignments requiring competence in all conventional aspects of an accounting discipline.

7.Applies extensive expertise as a technical specialist.

8.Performs accounting duties of a more complex nature requiring professional experience and knowledge of accounting principles and practices.

9.May supervise one or more accounting functional units such as payroll, accounts receivable, cost accounting, etc.

10.Demonstrates the ability to plan, develop, coordinate and direct detailed phases of an accounting function and conduct work requiring independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques and procedures.

11.May ensure compliance with accepted accounting principles and company policies and procedures.

12.Analyzes current accounting procedures and recommend and install more efficient procedures when necessary.

13.Develops and installs accounting systems, methods, procedures and controls.

14.Maintains the general ledger and subsidiary systems.

15.Approves and verifies invoices.

16.Authorizes and endorses vendor and subcontractor payments.

17.Manages and controls accounting data systems.

18.Devises and reviews charts of accounts and cut-off dates.

19.Monitors work order accounting system.

20.Provides financial interpretation and guidance to management personnel.

21.Work is reviewed for adequacy in meeting objectives.

22.Applies sound professional judgment on details of work.

23.Performs all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration or a related field or demonstrated equivalent.

  • 8+ years experience of professional developmental experience

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • Working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications

  • Organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required

  • Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance

  • Position may require travel

Preferred Qualifications

A CPA or MBA preferred.
