Ryerson Sr. Account Manager - Grand Rapids in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Position Description: Ryerson Inc., one of the largest metals distributors in the US, is currently seeking an Account Manager to join our Grand Rapids, MI sales team. This position focuses on business throughout the State of Michigan involving contractual, customer specific programs that work with internal and external customers in the sales function. Reporting to the General Sales Manager, this position involves a high volume of face-to-face customer contact with vast growth opportunities within their territory.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Daily interaction with a diverse customer base of clients from a variety of industries; the right candidate has the opportunity to build relationships while responding to customer requests for material needs, technical inquiries and material solutions

  • Consults with the service center and regional sales/product management to develop quotations and contract proposals that are responsive to customer needs and result in profitable sales for Ryerson

  • Succeeds by understanding the goals and concepts of our business and incorporating these goals daily to achieve sales and profitability targets

  • Understands and keeps up-to-date on the competitive environment and provides market intelligence to sales management to help shape service center sales strategies, price levels and working capital decisions

  • Works closely with our inside sales team, credit center, procurement and warehouse personnel to creatively achieve both company and customer objectives

  • Keeps customers informed about industry and economic trends and Ryerson’s ability to assist customers in adapting to change

Position Requirements:

  • Viable candidates will offer a Bachelor’s degree, along 5+ years of outside sales experience in an metals or other industrial / manufacturing environments

  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills with a desire to provide exceptional customer service

  • An aggressive, competitive and self-motivated attitude is essential

  • Experience in contractual selling and negotiations is preferred

  • Strong organizational skills, keen attention to detail and an aptitude for math

  • Exposure to supply chain and inventory management is also highly valued

  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications is required; experience in SAP and Salesforce.com CRM tools is desired

  • Your ability to solve problems and work well within a team or individually is also a must
