Job Summary:Reporting in a matrix environment to the Directors, Accounting Policy, and Accounting Advisory this position offers the opportunity to drive the accounting policy interpretation and implementation globally. He/she will provide leadership in executing a plan which will address the rapidly changing accounting policy landscape, especially with respect to new accounting pronouncements relating to GAAP and IFRS and conforming MMC's accounting policies globally.The individual will be expected to keep abreast of any new guidance released from the SEC, FINRA, IASB and FASB, which will have implications on the organization, and to communicate and manage a plan to implement any relevant changes to the financial reporting process. This position will also provide direct support to the Controller's team, including Regional Controllers, Business Unit CFO's and their teams. The Individual will act as a subject matter expert on accounting and reporting issues, supporting the Director and Assistant controller in developing responses to inquiries by Operating Company Financial management and Business Leaders.Responsibilities:* Accounting Policy and Advisory- Organize and coordinate completion of special projects, in particular the implementation of new Accounting standards globally.- Develop policies and procedures to ensure dissemination and consistency of accounting policy globally.- Conduct research and document conclusions on specific accounting matters that arise within the Global Controller network- Provide responsive, competent service and information to regional financial management- Participate in acquisition due diligence, including resolution of potential accounting issues, and review and feedback on purchase price allocations and valuation* Internal Controls- Coordinate with Process & Controls function to ensure implementation plans for new accounting standards appropriately the Company's ongoing Sarbanes Oxley compliance requirement* Staff Development- Manage staff in matrix environment and provide appropriate management to ensure quality of work and integration of team members' work. Responsibilities include documenting employee goals, conducting performance reviews for staff, completing competency assessments and action plans for all team members. Make hiring, compensation, bonus and other people management decisions- Mentor and develop staff in functional, technical, and behavioral competencies as required for each role. Qualifications:Education:* 4 year degree in Accounting; CPA, CA or MBA requiredExperience:* Minimum seven to ten years of accounting experience, with M&A experience a plus* Public accounting experience a significant plus, insurance industry experience a plusKnowledge and skills:* Possesses strong people skills with the ability to interact with all levels of management and comfortable working in a matrix finance organization* Possesses strong knowledge and understanding of the theory and applicability of accounting principles and practicesMarsh & McLennan Companies is a global professional services firm offering clients advice and solutions in the areas of risk, strategy and people.
