LyondellBasell Industries Senior Lead Accountant - Inventory in Houston, Texas

This position will support the Global Process Owner – Corporate & Transactional Inventory Accounting in the transformation of the finance organization from a regional/local based financial & accounting services organization to the new financial organization with globally led processes within a shared services infrastructure.

The position is responsible for ensuring accurate complete and timely transactional processing with consistent application of global accounting procedures (in line with policy) and the sign off of appropriate accounting transactions. Transactional responsibilities include USGAAP and IFRS inventory accounting; FIFO inventory valuation, product costing, and inventory adjustments. This role is also responsible for accounting support and problem solving for inventory functional areas.

  • RESPONSIBILITIES:*

  • Lead and mentor Inventory Accounting peers in the delivery of efficient and effective services in accordance with corporate policies, legislative requirements and in line with customer expectations.

  • Support the Global Process Owner – Corporate & Transactional Inventory Accounting to deliver a culture of performance within the team, ensuring the company’s performance management process is embedded and delivered within the timelines.

  • Deliver the expectations of the Global Process Owner in managing the respective processes ensuring tasks, activities and sub-processes are standardized, aligned across the team.

  • Liaison between Supply Chain and Inventory Accounting to resolve issues as they arise.

  • Support and implement agreed process improvement initiatives within the inventory accounting process team.

  • Implement and track process performance indicators and metrics and explain trends in performance and against benchmarks.

  • Implement and maintain desk top procedures and controls (in line with global standards).

  • Deliver efficient and effective Inventory accounting services with corporate policies and legislative requirements.

  • Support and implement agreed process improvement initiatives.

  • Perform SOx controls and maintain evidence of control for area of responsibility.

  • QUALIFICATIONS:*

  • Bachelor’s degree with in Accounting with a minimum of 6 - 8 years of related accounting experience preferred. Finance Professional certification (e.g. CPA, CIMA) is highly desirable.

  • In-depth understanding of technical US GAAP and IFRS across a variety of topics is required.

  • Experience with Internal Controls and SOX/404 requirements.

  • Experience in a global, fast-paced, dynamic and deadline driven environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills essential given diverse nature of operating landscape and cultural sensitivities.

  • Passion for driving continuous improvements.

  • Deep understanding of the business and finance processes within the Petrochemicals business model, highly desirable.

  • Previous participation in the configuration, design and testing of SAP Financial Application experience preferred.

  • Ability to multi task and meet aggressive deadlines.

  • Ability to operate with a high degree of integrity and will be expected to work on confidential projects.

  • Ability to influence management decisions and behaviors that have an impact on process effectiveness.

  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint.

  • Extensive user of ERP systems (ideally SAP).
