Our client is seeking an Accountant to join their growing team in our Finance department. The Accountant is responsible for day to day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting, ensuring effective, efficient, and accurate financial and administrative operations. This position is also responsible for supporting month end and year end processes as well as the quarterly external reviews and annual year-end audit. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: ACCOUNTS PAYABLE: Coordinate the timely processing of all supplier invoices. Coordinate weekly cheque and electronic payments process which includes recording, preparing, distributing, and ensuring all cheques are mailed as appropriate. Coordinate invoice approval process with other departments and ensure that only authorized payments are made within supplier payment terms. Responsible for resolving invoice and payment discrepancies. Oversee vendor file maintenance and filing systems for all AP financial documents. Responsible for the reconciliation of all AP sub ledgers. Responsible for analysis of supplier payments and accounts. CASH MANAGEMENT AND BANKING: Oversee daily cash flow and cash balance reports updates for all cash and banking activities. Oversee the preparation of bank deposits and regular banking activities. Responsible for the recording and reconciliation of all banking activities. Receive and process cheques from liquidated damages and other sources following established procedures for processing and recording receipts and cash in bank. Assist with accurate weekly cash projections Monitor cash flow requirements and ensure that sufficient funds are available in accounts to fund payments made and address with department management any cash transfer needs on a timely basis. GENERAL ACCOUNTING Create and input journal entries; reconcile General Ledger accounts on an ongoing basis according to company policies and procedures. Perform monthly reconciliations including bank, Capital Asset, Prepaid, Accrual and other accounts as required. Coordinate and complete special project work in a timely manner. Prepare financial and accounting and cost variance analyses as required. Assist with month end, quarter end and year end preparation, and annual audit as required. Handle highly confidential information in a professional manner, adhering to privacy laws, accounting best practices; ensure the confidentiality and security of all financial, vendor, customer and employee information.
Minimum of university degree in Accounting or Finance or combination of industry experience and education; Final stage of obtaining an accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA, CPA) is considered an asset; Minimum of 3 years experience in an accounting function; Hands-on experience with accounting software, preferably Great Plains or other similarly-sized accounting system; Ability to work in a fast-paced, complex Finance environment characterized by multiple entities, bank accounts and general ledgers; Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook, and at least intermediate skill in Microsoft Excel; Team oriented, ability to work under pressure and prioritize effectively.
