General Summary:This is a senior level position that performs complex activities generally focused on premium billing and reconciliation and cultivating relationships with customers. This may include proactive outreach, and service and fulfillment for customized/special handling cases. This position works individually and in teams with minimal direction from management. Individuals are seasoned employees who rely on experience, judgment, and creativity to plan and accomplish goals.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as the GLTC single point of contact for Brokers, Plan Administrators, certificate holders and vendors; develops strong collaborative partnerships within team, across functional areas and with external customers.

  • Actively participates in customer relationship management.

  • Manages overall account suspense and premium allocation between policies and other product lines. Analyzes and identifies resolutions for past due policies.

  • Assists internal partners to set up enrollment events; manages enrollment events, including tracking of application and census information as needed; audits deduction files to ensure accurate billing following enrollment.

  • Identifies and communicates solutions for complex/customized billing or administrative setups.

  • Performs audits as needed, such as enrollment activity and premium remittance and allocation.

  • Effectively prioritizes and manages high volumes of email and phone inquiries from internal and external customers.

  • Clearly communicates information about products and administrative processes to internal and external constituents; proactively identifies and recommends effective solutions.

  • Completes assigned reports and other accountabilities timely and accurately; meets established productivity metrics and response times.

  • Demonstrates ability to effectively use resources and produce results to solve problems/issues with minimal support.

  • Demonstrates an expert working knowledge of Unum’s GLTC products, services, technology and business processes (including customer, market and industry knowledge) of his/her specific functional area, its issues and the technical skills required to support it.

  • Accepts responsibility for outcomes of his/her own efforts.

  • May mentor and oversee work of less experienced staff; may act as a mentor/teacher to raise the level of expertise within his/her team

  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • Four year degree preferred plus 2-4 years relevant business experience.

  • Strong to expert knowledge of general banking, accounting and billing/collection business practices; deep technical knowledge of premium and payment concepts

  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Operates with the mind of a business owner.

  • Effectively and independently prioritizes work.

  • Highly motivated and able to resolve problems/issues without the involvement of a manager.

  • Effectively able to participate in one or more projects while maintaining regular workload; demonstrated ability to sustain strong results.

  • Actively seeks opportunities to recommend changes to improve workflow or operating costs.

  • Strong communication and influencing/negotiation skills (clear, concise oral and written communication).

  • Advanced Excel skills (data analysis, data manipulation) and proficient in Word.

  • Proficient in mainframe systems and standard policy administration tools (e.g. PayDed/Mapper, FTU, iServices, Slice, GPC tool).
