South Jersey Industries Senior Tax Accountant in United States

Basic Function: Assist the Manager, Taxes in matters relating to the preparation of Federal and State tax reports, income tax accounting, tax planning and research and related tax matters.

Qualifications:

  • Four year degree in Accounting with CPA preferred.

  • A minimum of three to five years of relevant experience in tax compliance and tax accounting.

  • Ability to understand and interpret IRS codes and apply to utility and non-utility applications.

  • Strong analytical and communication skills required.

  • Experience with Corptax preferred.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of the Company’s consolidated federal tax return, separate company state income/franchise tax returns, and other filings.

  • Prepare quarterly federal and state estimated tax payments and annual extensions

  • Prepare provision to return adjustments

  • Assist with federal and state income tax audits

  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740.

  • Identify income tax return adjustments from general ledger data

  • Reconcile tax balance sheet accounts

  • Prepare related book journal entries

  • Assist with Sarbanes-Oxley 404 walk-throughs

  • Research tax issues (federal, state, income, sales and miscellaneous)

  • Conversant in tax research software

  • Monitor changes in tax law

  • Document tax positions

  • Support business units where required (new companies, locations, taxes)

  • Develop and maintain tax work papers related to State and Federal tax returns, accrual analysis, and administrative data.

  • Tax Depreciation calculations Deferred tax analysis (tax basis balance sheets) Uncertain tax positions

  • Provide tax related data to other departments where required.

  • Budget and forecast for tax P&L and cash flow

  • Rate Department support for rate cases and other filings

  • Human Resources and Payroll support in tax related matters

  • Assist the Manager, Taxes in other duties as assigned.

  • Tax planning projects

  • Tax process improvement projects

  • Tax compliance projects (Voluntary Disclosures, Amended Returns, etc.)

  • Perform duties inherent in all supervisory, professional and administrative positions. Consistent with all positions in this classification, additional projects, tasks and/or duties beyond what is outlined here may be assigned as required.
